» OBJECTIVES

Immediate Objectives

The project has four objectives:

1- Study the convergence of text and video on the information transmitted over the Internet. The band width within the university represents a laboratory where it is possible to research new communication formats for the future.

2- Connect the journalistic information with the systematic information (data base). Determine in which way news can and should be given in the framework of a accurate information system.

3- Organise the information and make it available on the net. The purpose of this is organise and process all this information, to give it a journalistic mark and make it available on-line, where it can be comfortably accessed.

4- Create an on-line university information organ. Although the universities have the best network structures in, they still resort to traditional forms, namely the news bulletins, uninteresting and usually outdated. There is not yet a real and professional information philosophy, in the Portuguese academic sphere. Therefore, it is necessary that the universities may also take advantage of the network as a privileged way of transmitting information to all those who work, teach and study there.

Medium-term Objectives

Create a Centre of Excellence at the University of Beira Interior, in the field of Communication Sciences in connection with the information technologies and multimedia.
